Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos are easily identified by their black plumage, with most body feathers edged with yellow. They have a distinctive Yellow cheek patch and Yellow panels on their tails. They have a shorter crest on the top of their heads compared to other Cockatoos’ crowns. Feeling slightly inferior, this cockatoo relied on creativity, ingenuity and the ocean’s precious bounty to present a hairstyle that turn heads.

 Tasmanian water colour artist, Patricia (PJ) Hopwood-Wade’s work is exhibited in Tasmanian galleries: Saddler’s Court Gallery, Richmond, Art as Mania Gallery, Deloraine and Artefacts, Salamanca Place. Her art has sold to private collections in Australia and abroad, and has received several People’s Choice and Highly Commended Awards, including being a finalist in Five Mile Press national illustration competition.
